Preparation and photodynamic bactericidal effects of curcumin-?-cyclodextrin complex

To overcome the poor water solubility of curcumin, a curcumin-?-cyclodextrin (Cur-?-CD) complex was prepared as novel photosensitizer. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to verify formation Cur-?-CD. Furthermore, ROS generation capacity photodynamic bactericidal effect measured confirm this Cur-?-CD kept activity curcumin. The result showed could effectively generate upon blue-light irradiation. plate count assay demonstrated possess desirable antibacterial against food-borne pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes Escherichia coli. cell morphology determined by electron microscope (SEM) transmission (TEM) cause deformation, surface collapse structure damage bacteria, resulting in leakage cytoplasmic; while agarose gel electrophoresis SDS-PAGE further illustrated inactivation mechanisms involve bacterial DNA protein degradation.
